East Jesus, Slab City

"Clearly, anyone who forsakes running water but keeps a grand piano around is a dedicated musician."

Quote from a blog about a Slab City resident. (Slab City has no utilities and residents must make do with self-contained motorhomes, trailers or camping out in the rough.)

I love pianos! The blogster even posted a picture of the piano and the musician at this link. All of her photos are rather stunning.

  1. Oh oh. Are you doing what I am doing, and thus landed on this blog you posted about? I have joined a group on Yahoo called "Van Dwellers"... for people who live on the road in vans, trucks, etc. I am seriously thinking about doing the same. A huge lifestyle change for me but necessity is the mother of invention, correct? So are you thinking along the same lines?

I know how hard it is to be 'homeless' and living with friends. This past year has been such a hard one and opened my eyes. I will be a lot more hospitable and reach out to those who are lonely and those who are struggling with keeping a roof over their heads, that is for sure.

I hope you are managing to stay positive and that your health improves.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, despite the place you are in right now, and that you feel loved by friends and family.

    Take care,

    Sandy

  2. OH... and people on the Van Dwellers board talk about meeting up at 'The Slabs'. I wonder if this is the place they are talking about? I bet it is.
