Life Happens and Other Interesting Trivia

While I am planning one thing, another thing happens. I guess that's the game of life. When things go right and when they go wrong, I just figure it's another adventure unfolding before me.  I try to find the fun, enjoy the quest, good or bad, it's happening right now.

Speaking of life happens...

I recently found out there is a website called LifeHappens.Org.  Naturally, I had to go there and see what it was all about. Well, it's a nonprofit organization formed in 1994, that aims to help you sort out the myriad terms of various types of insurance including life, disability, long-term care and health. Furthermore, they do not endorse any product, company or insurance advisor, so you can safely get information without being pummeled with ads and sales pitches.

I managed to learn a lot about insurance there, and also learned that  Life Insurance Awareness Month  is observed in September. If you have loved ones that would be financially affected by your death, then by all means you should be getting free life insurance quotes.

It's one of the few things you can actually get free quotes for. So often when you go to repair a car or computer, there is an upfront charge, just for the quote of how much you get to spend with their company to repair either your car or computer.

Typically, the younger you start buying life insurance, the cheaper it is, because you are young, and probably in better health, than after you've spent a few decades beating up your body.

Other month long observances in September include National Hispanic Heritage Month, National Preparedness Month, National Bourbon Heritage Month and National Yoga Month.

If you don't think your US Senators aren't busy keeping your best interests dear to their heart, just think they took a great deal of time and  trouble on August 7, 2007 to vote unanimously to declare September as  National Bourbon Heritage Month that calls for celebration of bourbon as America's "Native Spirit".

Yee haw!  Aren't you glad your government is hard at work for you?

I guess it makes sense to have both Life Insurance Awareness Month and National Bourbon Heritage Month, the same month. (I'll drink to that!)

Back in 1964 it took an Act of Congress to declare bourbon  "America's Native Spirit."

I guess they aren't counting white lightning, which the local moonshiners made from corn. Or maybe they are.  Some moonshine and all bourbon are made from corn. Matter of fact, since April, I've been workamping in Gumlog, Georgia which was once known for its distilled beverages (Gumlog drinks its corn) which is where the local motto, "Land of Spirits" comes from.

Some folks say they never stopped making moonshine here. Driving around the area, you are treated to a few non-working stills put on display for your enjoyment.

Even more trivia, Gumlog is the ancestral home of Senator John Edwards’ great-grandfather Ruck Edwards.  (I wonder what he did for a living around here?)

Hey, if you're studying to be a Jeopardy contestant, look how much you've learned already.
