Blue skies, tall forest

A Four Inch Coyote Track
Maybe I'll call him MC for Monster Coyote
*Note:  That is not the coyote's phone, I was using it for comparison.
The phone is 4.125 inches tall.

  1. That is a dog like track and not a cat. At first I thought it might be a mountain lion but it is a dog like track, definitely canine. It might be feral dogs or maybe a coyote. Do they have coyotes in Georgia? I want to know.

  2. I've seen a big coyote running not even 50 feet from my wheel estate, chasing two dear who were leaping in the air, crashing through the woods, snapping off limbs in their haste to escape the coyote.

As for dogs, no feral dogs about this area. I walk the entire park several times a day, but some of it is heavily wooded. There is only one dog that visits the park without a leash, he is not feral and his paws are not nearly that big. He doesn't even go beyond the parking lot, I think because my dog has marked the area.

But my dog marks low, maybe that big coyote didn't sniff low enough to the ground to realize my dog is trying to take over the park.

I have seen great big cat paw prints, a while back, they don't have the claws showing. I took pics, but had nothing with me to compare, to take a picture of the tracks with a ruler type object. I must get better at this.

It's only after hard rains, we have some soft mud, for the critters to even make tracks in. This coyote was obviously at the lake, getting a long cool drink.
