Sobriety test at entrance to Savannas Recreation Area in Florida. Trees in middle of road... bet you've heard that one before from a DUI suspect.
The alligator stalking me and my little dog. We asked to move from our lot which was six feet from this alligator's home. We ended up on the other side of the park, across from a private golf course. Harley had just lost his one and only golf ball just last month (we found it in SC ages ago and he has played with it ever since). While we were playing outside, a golf ball came flying across the wetlands, landing right in front of Harley. It was hilarious! He was thrilled and danced with delight, playing endlessly with his new ball. Today on our walk, we found one about 100 feet away. Yippie! Now he has two golf balls for fetch and play. I guess the golfer didn't want to cross the other alligator moat to come get it. The new moat is much further from us, so we feel like we have "warning" before a gator visit.

I love this place. You just never know who will walk by next. This couple is always seen together. Must be love. They stand about 4-5 feet tall.
Same couple.
Big birds love the wetlands here.
Scenic definition of Bucolic.
I labeled the grill in case you couldn't tell what it was. This picture struck me as absurd. Yes, this is in the park. A grill, a bench and a sign "Do Not Feed Alligators". Thankfully the picnic table (not shown) is movable.
Trees reflected in the wetlands look like an upside down world.
Water with lots of greenery growing in it is ideal for the park's alligators. I pray neither me nor the dog fall victim. I googled Florida alligator attacks and found out more than I wanted to know.
Summer has come so early here that Harley and I have been chased indoors by alligator threats as well as the need for air conditioning during the heat of the day. I miss living with the windows wide open all day and night, but thankfully we are able to enjoy the fresh air with open windows, early mornings and early evenings plus all night.

Wonderful Wednesday pictures, having never been to a park like that, it is beautiful and I am amazed at the wildlife. You are really blessed to be where you are.
ReplyDeleteEEEks, those gators worry me. We have them here too, but they live in the ponds, bayous & river beds here. No pond on this property thank goodness!
ReplyDeleteAnd the heat, yes, it's heating up here too. The humidity is starting to make me a bit cranky since I can't use my a/c here. Iy's time to set up the portable a/c or Leave! I'd like to do the latter
;-)
You write the way I think. Love it!
