I was thinking of starting a Wordless Wednesday posting just photos. But then I find myself rambling on anyhow.
This is some of the wildlife I've run afoul of...
By the way, we have wildfires on the prairie now. One erupted today. The fire truck just came roaring in again to fill up his tanks from our well. We have a special thick hose for this, so they can top up in a hurry.
If the fires get any closer, I am leaving. No idea where I am going, but having survived fires, hurricanes, earthquakes, boat sinkings, floods, and lightning strikes... why push my luck now?
I may have accidentally come off as rude today. I mentioned to someone that if my motorhome vanished, it was because I was putting distance between me and the fires. They jumped in about how I didn't need to leave, the fires were contained and what a fool I would be and blah blah blah... I said something like I didn't need their permission to take refuge.
I have seen how the winds around here can go from zero to forty in the blink of an eye. Fires can spread far and wide in seconds, there is plenty of dry wood around here to fuel them. Maybe the injury on my face makes me look like an idiot and they felt like it was their job to tell me what I could and couldn't do. I didn't mean to sound rude. But honest to goodness, I don't wait for the herd to make a decision. I have a brain tucked away in my head somewhere. I can make decisions. I patiently listened while they extolled their wonderful insurance on their rig. But the thing is, I don't want to be an insurance claim. If they want to stay when the fires get close, so be it. But please don't tell me what I can and can't do.
The horrible pileups, deaths, injuries and wreckage from those caught in thick smoke while tootling down interstate 75 in Florida recently, is a sobering reminder. They weren't even running from the fires but they got caught in thick smoke possibly mixed in with equally thick fog. You just never know when your number is up. It took the rescuers days to discover there were more deaths than originally accounted for.
As I write this, another fire truck just flew in to suck up from our well.
I'm with you! This is a part of RVing, we can leave if things look scary & I'd be thinking on the same terms as you. Hurricanes are the reason I have mine & well, now it's the reason I live in mine...but I have the comfort of knowing that I can leave if needed, taking my little house on wheels & my pets along with me to safe grounds.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the rude part. I usually am dumbfounded, and then think of all the things I should have said later on, when I am stewing on it.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if you leave, make sure they see you driving out, wave and smile as big as you can. Like you're having the time of your life and they are the dum dums. Heh heh heh.
Anyway, I haven't seen your picture on the blog and am curious. Is there a reason you don't reveal your famous self? I am just curious to know if you're my age, early 50's.

ReplyDeleteGood for you. Using your own judgment and making your own choices is what it's all about.
ReplyDeleteOften caution is the better part of valor. That is the great advantage of the RV. Getting out early and safely is always a good choice:)
